Summary: The Republic forces launched an attack on Brentaal IV, five months after the Battle of Geonosis. The planet was supposed to be unprepared for an attack, but when the Republic invaded, they met stiff resistance and suffered many casualties, among them Jedi.

The Republic forces were forced off planet, leaving Jedi Master Shaak Ti, Agen Kolar and their clone troopers behind. To get away from the Separatist forces, Ti and a trooper sought refuge in a prison while Agen Kolar was captured.

Shaak found and got help from four inmates: Lyshaa, Ryyk, Saguro Autem, and a Jedi named Quinlan Vos. With these four, Ti and the trooper entered Shogar Tok's fortress where they hoped to disable the defenses.

They were able to do so, and the Republic took Brentaal IV on it's second attempt.

What worked: This was my first comic in years, and this story was a fun one to read. Overall, the entire plot was clear and straightforward, just spanning one issue. I liked several things about this issue:

Artwork: Very well done. The artists managed to get some great scenes in there and I was impressed with the shadings and colors that were included.

Story: In addition to having a pretty good adventure here, Ostrander was able to convey the urgency that the Republic felt in the war, as well as the feel about how well the war was going, which wasn't well for the Republic. There were a couple mentions of how the Jedi were seen as the enemy, and this might be a basis for future events.

Action: The artists were able to get some great action scenes in this comic, from the first battle, to the one in the sewer, to the laser room. There was some good stuff there.

What didn't work: There's not too much to complain about this issue, but there were a few items that I didn't like. First, the price, which is $4.99, nearly the price of a paperback book, and buying a lot of the comics will drain your pocket further given the number of them. Second, the cover of this issue, which looks like it's a painting on wood, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless I missed something. That was the one reason that I hesitated before I bought this issue.

Overall, an excellent one-shot comic, and is well worth the money. Can't wait until the next installments of JEDI one shots are published.

Rating: 8/10
