Publisher: Dark Horse Comics Reviewed by Andrew Liptak
Summary: Raiders have been attacking Republic shipping lines, crippling the war effort during the Clone Wars. Needed supplies were being captured and/or destroyed. As a result, Aayla Secura, Kit Fisto, Master Tholme, The Dark Woman and Master Saa onboard a Republic Assault Cruiser, go to take care of the problem. Someone on Devaron was involved with the raiders, someone high up. When Master Saa was about to find out, she was killed. The traitor had hired bounty hunter Aurra Sing to take care of the problem, and retained her when she found out that Jedi were coming to investigate. Tholme, Secura and the Dark Woman go to Devaron and are housed by Republic Senator Sai'malloc. Aurra Sing finds out that they are there and sets traps for them, in the form of smuggler's bases. The Traitor turns out to be the senator herself, and orders Sing to not kill the Jedi. Sing disagrees and vows that they will all die. The Senator went to Aayla and told her where the real smuggler's base was, trying to get out of her involvement with them. In the meantime, Tholme and the Dark Woman, are investigating the fake smuggler's caves, were trapped by the bounty hunter and used as bait to draw Aayla in. Aayla goes to find her friends after contacting Master Fisto in orbit, who goes and takes out the smuggler's base. Aayla and Aurra fight, in a battle that Aayla eventually wins. The bounty hunter is arrested and taken into custody, the smuggler's base is gone and the traitorous senator is killed by her government.
What Worked: This was one awesome issue, possibly the best out of all of the Jedi one-shots. There are several elements that make this a keeper. First, Duursema and co. have done their magic again and brought in some of the best comic art that I have seen. The scenes, angles, colors, and action is beautifully drawn and colored. There are some awesome panels here, well done ones. The script was out standing as well. Ostrander held up his end and was able to get all the characters well done, and got some pretty good lines in there. Aayla Secura is the key player in this issue, and a great player she is, in looks, action and thought. Overall, the action just went on and really holds the reader. But there is more than action. Aayla goes through several periods of contemplation, where she has flashbacks of her and Quinlan Vos, whom she thinks went over to the dark side and the Confederation. There are also some great moments with Aayla and Aurra, who are two fan favorites. Aayla confronts Aurra with her past and ends up cutting off her antenne, but not after the pair do some pretty nasty fighting, with kicks, explosions and jumps. There's also a heartwarming scene where Aayla returns one of Aurra's victim's lightsaber to his former apprentice.
Almost nothing here for me. Except one thing: There is a disturbing lack of Clone Troopers in this issue. I love the guys, and they didn't make their way into here save for a couple panels.
Overall: An awesome, kick-ass issue that everyone should at least read, then buy. Rating: 9.5/10
