Significance in the Clone Wars
The prime supplier of military supplies and weapons to the Separatists, Geonosis was used as a headquarters for the Separatists while they massed their forces to attack the Republic. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi discovered the planet as he tracked bounty hunter Jango Fett there trying to arrest him. There, Kenobi was captured by Count Dooku and sentenced to death. Kenobi's apprentice, Anakin Skywalker and Republic Senator Padme Amidala were likewise captured and sentenced to death. The sentence was about to be carried out when a large force of Jedi and later, a full compliment of Clone Troopers attacked the arena to save the trio and to take out the Separatist leadership. The result was the first battle in the Clone Wars, where nearly two hundred Jedi were killed, and the first Republic victory in the War.
