Astaal Vilbum was a well known scholar during the last years of the Old Republic, and knew of several holocrons located on Coruscant. He also found a holocron that told of Volfe Karkko's imprisonment on Kiffex, which allowed Jedi Master Mace Windu to take Karkko out.
