Before the Clone Wars… Count Dooku of Soreno was a revered Jedi Master. He became one of the "Lost Twenty" when he left the order around ten years before the Clone Wars began. Supposedly he left for politically idealistic reasons and even when he became the leader of the Separatist movement, no one suspected his true motives. He had been seduced to the dark side by Darth Sidious and taken on the new name of Darth Tyranus! More info: starwars.com
During the Clone Wars… Month of the Battle of Geonosis: Darth Tyranus started the Clone Wars by creating both the Droid Army and the Clone Army behind the scenes, by starting the Confederacy of Independant Systems, and by setting in motion events that led to the Battle of Geonosis. Month X ABG: Darth Tyranus, as Count Dooku, led the Confederacy in the Clone Wars. Darth Tyranus was promised that he would be part of his master's new Empire, but it turned out Darth Sidious had other plans. Month 36 ABG: Darth Tyranus was killed by Anakin Skywalker during the Battle of Coruscant.
