CLONE WARS BATTLES
Second Battle of Xagobah Part 1 | Battle of Rendili | Showdown at Coruscant | Mission to Anzat | Mission to Saleucami
The Second Battle of Xagobah Part 1 Key Characters Boba Fett, Wat Tambor, General Grievous, Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Glynn-Beti, Jedi padawan Ulu Ulix, Xeran, Nuri Setting the Stage After enjoying a successful and flourishing start to his bounty-hunting career in the employ of Jabba the Hutt, young Boba Fett was turning out to be a promising and deadly hunter. Whilst building up his reputation, Boba had mainly carried out Jabba’s bidding on Tatooine, but all that was to change as the bloated crime lord gave his prodigal hunter an assignment off planet, on the world of Xagobah. According to Jabba and his major-domo Bib Fortuna, a high-ranking Republic Senate official had placed bounties on the heads of leaders of the Separatists. One such leader, the Techno Union Foreman Wat Tambor, was Boba’s target. Tambor, who had previously escaped Republic custody with the aid of a Clawdite named Nuri, was now holed up in his supposedly impenetrable fortress on Xagobah, which was under siege by the GAR, under the command of Jedi Master Glynn-Beti. The Battle After receiving a special gift from his friends Ygabba and her father Gab’borah, and a brand new suit of Mandalorian armor designed to fit him, Boba departed the desert planet in Slave 1 and set course for Xagobah, after destroying a rival Aqualish hunter whilst still in the Tatooine system. On arrival at his destination, Boba identified that a Republic Acclamator cruiser was already in-system, most likely coordinating the assault of Tambor’s citadel from high up in orbit. Boba piloted Slave 1 through the strange mist-like spores that were generated from the giant forests of mushrooms and fungi that carpeted the surface. Activating the ship’s cloaking device, Boba touched down some distance from the citadel, far back from the front lines in order to avoid detection. On the surface, Boba tried to make his way through the local terrain, but it was proving difficult. The ground consisted of a sticky, sinking substance that made walking difficult, and when startled by sounds of battle overhead, the hunter was suddenly caught up in one of the fungus trees, which had cocooned him within its slimy folds. As the living mushroom attempted to devour him, Boba avoided being eaten by attacking it with one of his ancillary weapons; a stokhli spray stick, which emitted an electrical stun mist, allowing Boba to scramble free only to be confronted straight away by a large reptilian alien with a blaster. The alien revealed himself to be Xeran, of the Xamster species native to the planet. As sounds of battle raged around them, Xeran led Boba through the strange forest. He explained how the war had reached his planet, claiming many, many lives, leaving the malvil-trees that they harvested dying through neglect. A tendril from a tree transported the pair to the upper canopy of the forest, revealing to Boba the extent of the siege on Tambor’s citadel. Dug-in platoons of clone troopers fired upon the malevolent fortress from their trenches as battle droids marched from the city to meet them. Boba and Xeran then went on their separate ways. Boba’s route to the citadel, which was named Mazariyan, lay through the entrenched troops. Xeran told Boba that he could pass through undetected by surrounding himself in spores that ejected from the globe-fruit of the fungus trees. Neither clones nor droids could see through the spores, both sides would assume he would simply be one of the many spores that aimlessly drifted about the landscape. So Boba started his journey, making his way through the emplacements and forest. As he approached the fortress, he saw Wat Tambor’s defences more clearly; battle droids, fighters, and hovering in the sky was a ramship, a drone ship packed with explosives and probably programmed to ram the Republic cruiser in orbit. Boba’s plan was to somehow use the ramship to destroy Mazariyan. Commandeering an abandoned swoop-bike, Boba flew to just below the forest canopy. There he spotted more of the GAR’s hardware heading towards the citadel. AT-TE’s, gunships, speeders and starfighters were visible. Then suddenly another swoop passed Boba and began to head for the ramship. Boba recognised the pilot as Ulu Ulix, Master Glynn-Beti’s padawan learner. Ulix had had the same idea as Boba, for the learner Jedi sped towards the ramship, evading fire from the Separatist forces, until a shot from below actually hit the Jedi’s swoop, sending him plummeting to the citadel. Racing on an intercept course, Boba saved the young Jedi from death as he crashed onto the front of the swoop, but the bounty hunter still had to evade fire from battle droids on the ground before they sped in the direction of the Republic Ulix directed his mysterious saviour to land the swoop at Glynn-Beti’s position. After a scornful attack on her padawan, the Jedi Master praised Boba Fett for his actions. She asked him what his place in this battle was, and Boba replied that he sided with the Xamsters. The two Jedi boarded an AT-TE to return to the battle and Boba took to the air again in the swoop. From up above, he could see the attack on the fortress and Tambor’s counterattack, as thousands of battle droids and droidekas streamed out. Searching for a way inside, Boba flew closer to the action but was fired upon by a droideka. A successful hit caused the swoop to crash into the ground below, and a dazed Boba found himself immediately confronted by a clone trooper, who raised his blaster at him. A moment’s hesitation could have proved fatal for Boba as he considered that the trooper before him was identical to his father, but Boba quickly blasted him. Now, 200 metres from the fortress walls, and in the thick of the battle, Boba wondered how he would survive, never mind gain access to Mazariyan. Suddenly, a squadron of Jedi starfighters entered the battle, led by Anakin Skywalker. Evading enemy fire, Skywalker fired upon the fortress and blew a hole in it, much to Boba’s joy – he now had a way in. He made his way towards it and hid in the wreckage of a downed spider-droid, watching the battle unfold. He saw a Hailfire droid target Anakin’s starfighter, but the Jedi evaded the missiles at the last moment, causing them to head for the ramship. The missiles struck, and combined with the energy stored in the explosives contained within, blew the ship up with an immense starburst, and it was no more. The energy pulse from the destroyed ramship scrambled all the battle droids’ circuitry, giving Boba his chance to gain access to Mazariyan. Scrambling for the hole in the wall, the young bounty hunter came across a different line of defence; mutated spines of fungus, designed to impale any would-be intruders. Boba then remembered the spore-globes that Xeran had given him, and he smashed one, unleashing another spore-cloud that hid him and caused the fungus-spines to react and whither. The cloud was not permanent, and more spines grew in place of the withered ones, but the distraction was enough to allow Boba access into Wat Tambor’s monolithic fortress. Inside, Boba Fett snuck through the dark corridors, passing scrambled monitors and evidence of captured ARC troopers, however, there were no droids or security. He journeyed upwards, spiralling up the passages that would hopefully bring him to the Techno Union leader. Entering a chamber, Boba came across an enemy from his past. It was the Clawdite Nuri who he had confronted on Aargau and had earlier assisted Tambor in escaping from Republic custody. Now, Boba faced him and they fought, the alien constantly shape-shifting its form to outwit the hunter. Boba eventually got the better of him with his vibroblade and then questioned the alien. The Clawdite indicated a passageway leading to Tambor’s location, and revealed that he was unguarded due to all droids being used in the battle, but he mentioned that reinforcements were soon arriving with Grievous. When questioned by Boba who Grievous was, the shape shifter replied that he was the General, and he would destroy Boba! Boba immobilised Nuri in some of Wat Tambor’s bio-engineered paralysing fungus that lay around, and made his way down the passage, entering the chamber through an archway. Inside, the chamber revealed a huge, pulsing, living mass with veins leading from it that fed the nervecenter of the fortress. It was Mazariyan’s heart, and beside it was Wat Tambor, who immediately attacked the new intruder with electrical bolts from his hand. Boba retaliated with his blaster, but his bolts fed the nervecenter as it then went for Boba with its tentacles. Dodging and slicing them with his vibroblade, Boba evaded them but took a blast from Wat Tambor for his trouble. He crashed to the ground but was not injured – his armor had protected him, and he hid in a pile of droid parts. Wat Tambor was distracted for a moment as somebody else arrived. As Boba wondered how he would defeat the Separatist ally, he caught a glimpse of the new threat. It was the general of the droid army – General Grievous! As the General’s bodyguards began to sweep the chamber for Boba, the bounty hunter remembered Ygabba’s gift that has been given to him back on Tatooine. It was a holo-shroud, designed to disguise the wearer with whatever image had been scanned into it. Hopeful that Ygabba had chosen a form wisely, Boba activated the shroud and stepped out from his hiding place, in his holo disguise, that of another ruthless bounty hunter – Durge. The chamber’s occupants all saw Durge emerge, sowing momentarily confusion – Tambor had told Grievous that they were searching for a Mandalorian warrior. But it didn’t matter to Grievous, he was still an intruder, and he commanded his bodyguards to destroy him. Boba sent ion blasts to stun the approaching guards and raced for the exit. As he tried to escape, the shroud’s power cell depleted and he was revealed as the armor-clad intruder that Tambor had described. Boba and Grievous’s droids exchanged blaster fire then Boba was in the exit tunnel with thoughts of escape in his mind. However, he was brought down in the corridors as he felt pain stabbing his back, and as he lay sprawled with the lightsaber-wielding Grievous approaching him, he reached for a clump of the paralysing fungus. The General’s two lightsabers were about to strike as an icy sensation spread through Boba – the paralysing toxin he’d used on Nuri was now coursing through his own body. His last thoughts were that he’d failed Jabba’s mission to defeat Wat Tambor, as the Techno Union Foreman approached him and nudged his lifeless body. Grievous extinguished his lightsabers and kicked Boba, believing him to be dead. He and Tambor then returned to the chamber, the bodyguards in tow, leaving the seemingly dead Boba alone in the corridor, as the battle raged on outside… Outcome Wat Tambor’s citadel on Xagobah is still under siege by the GAR. Anakin Skywalker’s evasive action caused the Separatist ramship to be destroyed before it could be used to defeat the Republic cruiser. Boba Fett located Wat Tambor but is defeated in his initial skirmish against General Grievous and his bodyguards, and is presumed dead. Sources Boba Fett #5: A New Threat Key Characters Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Master Koon, Jan Dodonna, Jace Dallin, Anakin Skywalker, Quinlan Vos, Arfour, Lieutenant / Captain Mellor Yago, Lt. Gallon, Asajj Ventress, Skorr, Rancor Setting the Stage The planet Rendili was on the brink of suceeding and fell to the Confederation just as a Republic fleet arrived to help take the planet back. In orbit around the planet, the planet's defense force, the Rendili Fleet engaged in a stand off. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan worked at trying to find an exploration vehicle that missed a deadline checking in. The Battle EPISODE I Master Koon and Captain Jan Dodonna boarded one of the Rendili ships in order to negotiate with them. However, once on board, the deck crew, led by Lieutenant Yago, arrested the Rendili fleet commander, Jace Dallin, a Stark Hyperspace War veteran and the Republic officials. They were brought away, to be used as hostages. Koon said that it was a mistake and that master Saesee Tiin would destroy their fleet anyway. Yago replied that Dooku's forces were on their way anyway. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Arfour found their exploration craft, floating adrift in space, with recent signs of battle. It was also broadcasting a Jedi distress signal. Obi-Wan landed his fighter and went in to investigate. There, he found that the crew was dead and a surprise: Rogue Jedi Quinlan Vos, fighting some kind of attack droids. Following his instincts, Obi-Wan jumped down to help his former friend. Quinlan was just as surprised to see him, and promised that if they got out, he would explain everything. The two fought their way out and jumped into a pool to escape an explosion that one of the droids caused. Quinlan said that they should keep moving; Asajj Ventress and Skorr were following him, and that they would not give up. Elsewhere on the ship, Ventress sensed Obi-Wan's presence, and dispatched a group of special attack droids. While they were resting for a moment, Obi-Wan gave Quinlan some food and they recounted an experience that they had both shared years ago. Obi-Wan and Quinlan were trying to best each other as padawans, and Quinlan fell into a deep pool of water, where Obi-Wan saved him. Quinlan explained that he remembered fighting his former padawan, Aayla Secura, and how that brought him to realize how he had fallen. The two then got up and began to head to the hander bay, and Quinlan explained how he got there. While that was happening, they were attacked by the droids that Ventress set on them, MORP droids, who's weapon was a lethal electronic shock. They were forced to run- right into Ventress, who was bent on capturing, torturing, breaking and killing Obi-Wan for escaping from her castle previously. Obi-Wan and Ventress faced off and Skorr and Quinlan fought. Skorr knocked out Quinlan quickly, saying that he took his ship, his lightsaber and would bring him to Dooku. Obi-Wan and Ventress fought, and the Jedi Master was forced to jump out of the way- onto a rancor cage. Cutting the latch, he let it out. It promptly attacked Ventress, who called for Skorr's help. While they dealt with that, Kenobi pulled Vos to safety and to the hanger. Quinlan suggested that he return to the fight, while Obi-Wan got the ship that Vos came in on, but Obi-Wan told him to get the ship- he was in no shape to fight Ventress alone. Thus, Obi-Wan returned to the fight, only to find that Ventress had taken over the Rancor, which she used to attack him. She told him that he was foolish to have let Quinlan use his fighter- he had fallen to the dark side, and could not be trusted. Then she closed in. EPISODE II Obi-Wan Kenobi and Asajj Ventress fight against each other, Asajj with the Rancor. Quinlan Vos has gone out to retrieve his starship, while Skorr works on finding Quinlan. Asajj and the Rancor attack Obi-Wan through a window, and Asajj uses the broken glass to hurl at Obi-Wan, who deflects the shards. While they fight, Asajj claims that she will break Obi-Wan, while Kenobi tells her that she is disgracing her former master. She relies that she doesn't care what he would have wanted. Meanwhile, Quinlan returns in his ship, and destroys Obi-Wan's fighter, and leaves the hanger. Skorr is having no luck finding Quinlan anywhere, and tells Asajj to cut it out and help him look. Asajj tells him that capturing Obi-Wan will help their standing with Dooku. Skorr tells her that it ends now, and fires on Obi-Wan from the ship, but ends up distracting the Rancor long enough for Obi-Wan to get the upper hand on Asajj and kills the Rancor. Their fight moves up onto some stairwells while Skorr fires again. Asajj yells at him that it is HER fight. While Skorr is distracted, Quinlan downs his ship, and he and Obi-Wan escape, leaving Asajj and Skorr without transport off the ship. Quinlan wants to destroy the ship, but Obi-Wan tells Quinlan to leave them. He also learns that his starfighter was destroyed. From there, they go to Rendili, where the standoff is not going well. The soldier who took over the fleet, Lt. Yago, is threatening to kill the hostages, of which is Plo Koon, if the Republic doesn't leave the system. Anakin says that if he plants explosive charges on the Hyperdrives of the Rendili Fleet's head ship. That would effectively immobilize the fleet. Obi-Wan and Quinlan arrive as they are planning. Jedi Master Tiin takes out his lightsaber and tries to take control of Quinlan, until Obi-Wan speaks up for him. However, Quinlan still agrees to hand over his lightsaber and is taken into custody. While this is happening, the Confederation forces arrive in system and launch their fighters. The Republic launches it's own fighters and gunships. The Jedi take to their starfighters and Anakin plans to implement his plans. The two fleets meet in the space around Rendili. The Republic flagship is hit and all power is diverted to the shields, allowing Quinlan out of his cell. He recovers a gun and his lightsaber. The Rendili fleet prepares to make a linked jump to hyperspace. Anakin tells Obi-Wan that he's going to implement his plan, and Quinlan appears in a Starfighter, helping them out. Anakin goes to plant the charges, while Obi-Wan and Quinlan fly into one of the hangers on the Rendili Flagship to take control of the fleet. They encounter resistance and fight their way in, finding the Republic prisoners and releasing them. Meanwhile, Anakin gets ready to fire his charges. EPISODE III Anakin fires the charges, which land on the Rendili Fleet's flagship. On the Flagship, the Republic prisoners begin to take over the ship. Captain Yago and those loyal to him fight back, but the prisoners quickly over take them. Soon, they're cornered, and his second in command, Lt. Gallon wants to surrender, but Yago shoots him. The Rendili fleet is soon back in the hands of the Republic. The Rendili fleet turns on the Confederacy forces, destroying them. The Republic chases the Confederacy out of Rendili space. Outcome The Republic retains the planet Rendili and it's vital defense force. Quinlan Vos is taken into Republic Custody and brought to Coruscant. Meanwhile, General Grievous picks up Asajj Ventress's distress call and saves her and Skorr. Asajj takes a fighter and follows Quinlan, Obi-Wan and Anakin to Coruscant. Key Characters Anakin Skywalker, Asajj Ventress Setting the Stage Having won the battle of Rendili, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Quinlan Vos and the other Jedi attached to the mission return to Coruscant, where Quinlan Vos faces charges of treason. However, while there, he explains what happened, saying that he did the things because he was required to gain Count Dooku's trust. He apologized for everything that he did. The Jedi Council welcomed him back into the Jedi Order. However, Quinlan sends a message to Khaleen, telling Dooku that the Jedi council has been fooled by his ruse. The Battle Anakin Skywalker, after the deliberations by the council, went to go find his wife Padme, only to find that she was off world on some unexpected business. She left a hologram for him though. He took the hologram and flew to the Industrial Sector and listened to the message. While he was watching, Asajj Ventress appeared, having followed him. She stole the hologram from Anakin and told him that she will go and kill Senator Amidala first, then come and find him. Anakin ignited his lightsaber and attacked her, who fought back. She mocked him, saying that he was a pitiful fighter, then said that she would find Padme first. Anakin yelled for her to stay away from her. Asajj cut Anakin across the face and she told him that she could have cut off his head. She also told him that the last time that they fought, he was lucky to have survived, and that he didn't understand the power that he had. He grew angry and told her that she knew little of him, or the power that he had. By now, they were fighting far above the ground on some skeletal buildings. Their blows grew more and more furious and soon, Anakin gained the upper hand in the fight, pushing Asajj back. He fought all out, and used the force to entangle the darksider in electrical cables. He then suspended her over the edge of the building, while she was getting shocked by the cables. She taunted him once more, saying that he wouldn't kill her. Anakin said goodbye, and dropped her over the edge, and she fell out of sight. Outcome Asajj Ventress is believed to be dead by everyone except Obi-Wan. Palpatine tells Anakin that he is a masterful Jedi, and that the new Rendili ships can be retrofitted to transport Dark Jedi prisoners, such as Asajj. Anakin thinks that such people should be executed on the spot. Palpatine says that he understands his passion and anger, and tells him that he is a true warrior. Sources Republic #71
Key Characters Tholme, Aayla Secura, T’ra Saa, Luminara Unduli, Quinlan Vos, Khaleen, Dexter Jettster, Akku Seii, Unnamed Morgukai, Rath Kelkko Setting the Stage Quinlan Vos had provided information that Sora Bulq had made several visits to Anzat. Tholme decided to investigate. Not taking any chances, Tholme had Luminare Unduli replace his injured leg with a cybernetic one. Aayla Secura said that she would accompany him on the mission and have her troops stand by. T’ra Saa bid Tholme farewell as he departed for Anzat. Quinlan Vos and Khaleen visited the Senatorial Tombs on Coruscant. Using the force next to the tomb of Senator Viento, Quinlan discovered that the Senator had been in contact with a female Anzati assassin. Most likely, this assassin was a contact between Viento and the Second Sith. Quinlan and Khaleen paid a visit to Dexter Jettster in his Diner. Dexter gave them a name for the Anzati assassin: Saje’ Tasha. Quinlan asked him to put out the word that Khaleen wants to hire her for a job. Dexter agreed and Quinlan and Khaleen left. The Mission Tholme went to visit Akku Seii, an old Anzati master who once taught him some of the Anzati skills. Akku said that because of the traditions he could not tell Tholme about Sora Bulq. Akku said they were at an impasse. Just then a group of Anzati warriors attacked Tholme. Akku gave tholme permission to kill them. Meanwhile in a cantina at the Anzat Spaceport Aayla Secura, undercover in her Jayzaa identity, was trying to seduce some of the people in the cantina into revealing where Sora Bulq is. Aayla succeeded in finding out where Bulq’s ship is. She snuck abord and downloaded the ship’s logs. As she was leaving a Morgukai attacked her. Just as she finished killing him, she heard voices. Aayla hid and listened to their conversation. Sora Bulq was talking to an Anzati named Rath Kelkko. They speak about making an army that could turn the tide of the war, probably an army of Morgukai. Tholme defeats the Anzati warriors but he does not kill them. Tholme says he did not kill them because he knew they were students. When Akku Seii tells him that all of them are his students, Tholme is puzzled. The tradition was always one teacher for each student. Akku says that no other teachers are available at the moment. Later on Tholme and Aayla regroup on their ship discuss what they have found out. Apparently, Sora Bulq is creating an army of Morgukai trained by the Anzati. The logs on Sora Bulq’s ships seem to indicate that Seleucami is his base. Tholme says he will go there to investigate. Aayla says that she can’t go with him because she has been ordered to Trigalis. Outcome Dexter Jettster is going to spread the word that Khaleen is looking to hire Saje’ Tasha, an Anzati assassin who Quinlan Vos hopes will lead him to the second Sith. Tholme and Aayla Secura discover that Sora Bulq is probably having Anzati teach assassin techniques to Morgukai warriors. Tholme heads to Seleucami to learn more about what Sora Bulq’s is doing. Aayla Secura goes to Trigalis. Sources Republic #72 Key Characters Jedi Master Thome, Jedi Master Zao, Aayla Secura, Bok, Rath Kelkko, Count Dooku, General Grievous, Sora Bulq, Quinlan Vos, Khaleen Hentz, Saje Tasha Setting the Stage Master Thome split up with Aayla and went to the planet Saleucami by himself to look for Sora Bulq, and to investigate the Moregukai situation that seemed to have been brewing. He arrived on planet and found a former master, Master Zao. He told him of his mission, and Zao confirmed that he had sensed Sora on the planet. He also told him where he might be hiding. Quinlan has been accepted back into the fold as a Jedi, and continues his hunt for the second Sith. He had gone to Dexdar's diner to find the assassin who killed Former Chancellor Valorum. Valorum was killed when the ship that he was on was bombed. He finds a possible assasin who conducted the bombing, and sent Khaleen to talk with her. Khaleen found the assassin, an Anzati named Saje Tasha, and tried to talk to her. Tasha already knew that Quinlan was looking for her, and she told Khaleen so. Quinlan joined them from the shadows, and asked for her contact, the one who hired her to kill the former Chancellor. She told him that it was classified, and Quinlan attacked her. Tasha was protected by Cortosis in her armor, and the two fought, Quinlan with his lightsaber and Tasha with her gauntlets. Khaleen was left behind but tried to follow. Tasha taunted Quinlan by saying that they were alike, which angered Quinlan even more. He tore her gauntlets off her hands and grabbed her, using a force method to read her. She said that Kiffar could only read objects, but Quinlan said that Count Dooku taught him that people were just objects. He found that she did blow up the transport, and killed many to do so, and found her contact: Senator Viento, and shrouded in a robe, Sora Bulq. Quinlan thought he found the second Sith. Tasha said that he would never reveal this, and tried to suck out his 'soup', something that her species are known to do, when Khaleen caught up with them and bashed Tasha over the head, saving Quinlan. Khaleen tried to shoot her, but Tasha escaped. The Mission Zao told Tholme that Sora had set up opperations in the volcanic caverns below the city, taking advantage of the magma below to power whatever he was doing down there. Thome went off to investigate, and found something startling: The Seperatists were using cloning technology to build an army of their own, one composed of Morgukai, and were being highly trained in Anzati combat, as well as being armed with Cortosis Alloy weapons, which would prove to be a formitable force against the Jedi and Republic Forces. He observed Sora talking with Dooku and Grievous, explaining their plans. He contacted Aayla via holonet and told her of the happenings on the planet when he was attacked by a pair of Morgukai. He killed both of them, when Sora appeared and attacked him. Thome asked him why he had saved him on Bakura, when Sora had been originally captured by Dooku and turned, then brought Thome back to Coruscant. Sora told him that it was to increase his standing in the Jedi community, to further drive a wedge inbetween factions. They continued to exchange blows, Sora told him that he would be unable to kill him, and Thome replied that he only needed to escape. Thome used a sheet of broken glass shards to attack Sora, and cut through a boiler, escaping in the confusion. Sora returned to his control center, to find that Thome had escaped. When their clone batches began to fail, they knew that he was still around. Outcome Thome's message reached Coruscant, which helped mobilize three Clone Battalions and several Jedi to Saleucami. Quinlan Vos is now armed with the knowledge that he thought he was looking for, the supposed identity of the second Sith: Sora Bulq. He returns to the Jedi Temple to find a message from Master Thome, who engaged Sora. The Jedi Council plans a huge mission, with three battalions of Clones to hunt down the newest threat: a seperatist Clone Army. Sources Republic #73
