CLONE WARS BATTLES
Battle of Ohma-D'un | Battle of Pengalan | Mission to Qiilura | Battle of Teyr | Battle of Lianna | Mission to Ruul | Mission to Perilious
Key Characters Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, C-3PO, Glaive, Zule, Durge, Asajj Ventress, "Alpha" Setting the Stage On the way to Naboo, Anakin is thinking about Padme and how he is so close to her, yet so far away due to the War. Obi-Wan informs him that the briefing is about to begin now and that a messenger from Naboo has arrived. They enter the conference room where Anakin is reunited with C-3PO (Threepio) who is there acting as liaison to the Jedi, as appointed by Queen Jamilla. In the room is Master Glaive (a big tough Zangief-looking guy, with bald head and long beard) and his apprentice, Zule, a red-skinned female. An ARC Trooper is present as well. Threepio explains that a few days ago, Boss Nass lost contact with the Gungan colony on a moon of Naboo. Jamilla fears they fell victim to the disgruntled spice miners. The ARC says that he's studied the Gungans and feels with their military capabilities, they would find little threat from the miners--unless the miners had help. Obi-Wan says that the council fears the Separatists and Dooku have a hand in this. The ARC trooper suspects they intend to use it as a launching point for an attack on Naboo. He suggests the best approach for recon on this mission is a single gunship and a small strike team. The Battle Part One Anakin lands the gunship on the moon in the outskirts of the Gungan marsh. Obi-Wan doubles over from a hemorrhaging in the living Force he senses, attributing his sensitivity to it to Qui-Gon's tutorage. They find the Gungan colony site strewn with Gungan, Kaadu and Fambaa corpses. A couple of analysis or scientific droids take readings nearby. Cracked Gungan domes are also present. Anakin charges ahead and attacks the droids, as Kenobi and the others follow suit so as to avoid them sending a distress signal. "This isn't the work of spice miners," Glaive mentions. "A madman did this," Obi-Wan adds. "And I think we're about to meet him!" the ARC exclaims as a shadowy figure, using a jetpack, buzzes by, killing two clone troopers. The figure lands, swinging a bola. He cracks Obi-Wan on the side of the head with it, sending him into the marsh face down. The assailant presses his boot on top of the back of his head to push it down more. He mentions how he hasn't killed a Jedi in a century. "Now get gets to kill 4." The assailant is Durge, who gives his "damn good week" speech. Anakin Force shoves him off Obi-Wan as Durge releases the bola, which wraps around Anakin's neck and shocks him with electricity. "Sithspawn he's fast!" exclaims Zule as Durge rushes Glaive and smashes him in the face with his palm. Zule stabs him with her lightsaber, but Durge backhands her and sends her flying back. "Like that's never happened to me before...now where are your pet clones?" he comments. "Getting the drop on you," the ARC trooper says, as he fires a shot through Durge's eye. Glaive goes after Durge while he's stunned. "You're tough and nasty, I'll give you that- but so am I," Glaive adds. The ARC Trooper helps up Obi-Wan, who mentions he thinks the bola cracked his skull. "You should wear a helmet next time," the ARC comments. As Glaive brings out his lightsaber, Durge activates his jetpack to pull back slightly and call in for droid backup, since he's done toying with them. "Bring the swamp gas" he adds. Super battle droids converge on the site in a green gas alongside them. The ARC trooper suggests they retreat. Anakin suggests they warn the Naboo, but Obi-Wan says that Durge mentioned hostages, and that Anakin and the ARC should go after them. As Glaive battles the droids, his skin is bubbling from the gas exposure. He warns Zule to cover up before she's burned alive, but finds Durge has her at gunpoint. Durge comments that the Gungans died within seconds, but apparently it takes longer to work on other species. Glaive attempts to use a Jedi mind trick on Durge to get him to release her, but it fails. Obi-Wan, meanwhile, has snuck up behind Durge and jabs at him. He; however, dodges the move, mentioning that he's a "walking nerve cluster" and that he could feel his heartbeat from two hundred meters away. "You can' sneak up on me!" Glaive comments that he doesn't know how much he has left and that it's taking all his strength to keep his lungs from melting. Obi-Wan says they have to take this "mudslug" down before the gas gets them--the droids will lose focus without their leader. Durge laughs- "You think I'm in charge here? Not quite..." A red lightsaber blade decapitates Glaive. Asajj Ventress has arrived. "May the Force be with you, meatbag," Durge adds.
Part Two Anakin and the ARC Trooper are fighting their way past droids to get to the spice miners being held hostage, with Anakin's thoughts of Padme imposed over the action. The ARC Trooper covers Anakin as he jumps in close to two super battle droids, using the Force to turn the two droid's guns on each other. After releasing them, the miners explain that they were forced to load some sort of chemical weapon onto spice transports, killing half the crew and leaving them on the ship. Anakin surmises that they intend to crash the transports into Theed and wipe out half the Naboo by doing so. Anakin and the ARC Trooper head for the fueling site of the transporters. Meanwhile, Ventress approaches Obi-Wan. "I emerged from misery and suffering...only to find the Jedi I had once worshipped... are nothing more but weak, misguided fools. Count Dooku speaks true," she says as she readies her lightsabers. "...the galaxy needs a Jedi Purge!" After they clash sabers, she uses the Force to lift Obi-Wan into the air, holding him in place for Durge to aim at, as Zule stabs Durge through the back, making him miss. Durge reverses the situation and grabs her head, slamming her into the mud. Zule wonders if she severed his spinal cord, but Durge explains he has no central nervous system, so he doesn't have a spinal cord for her to cut. "Now, I'm going to take your face as a souvenir." Zule then replies, "This probably won't kill you..." as she grabs two of his blasters from their holsters, opening fire into his shoulders, "...but it should leave a mark!" Obi-Wan asks that Zule stay close to him, that hopefully together they can defeat them. Ventress then orders Durge to depart and oversee the attack on Naboo as she uses the Force to take control of several Gungan corpses. Anakin, after deciding he'll refer to the ARC trooper as "Alpha" (since calling him "the clone" bothers Anakin), arrives at the refueling site. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan and Zule (using the twin blasters) fend off Ventress and the Gungan zombies. Anakin draws fire from "Alpha" as the clone plants an explosive device on the refueling device. He sets the timer and bolts for cover as the refueling node explodes. As "Alpha" recovers from the blast wave, Durge gets the drop on him, punching him with a blow that sends him flying. "You ruined my mission, soldier boy! Count Dooku told me about your progenitor, how he was supposed to be the best warrior in the galaxy...won some bounty hunter competition." Durge elbows "Alpha" in the back, then lifts him over his head. "Jango Fett was lucky I was taking a nap. Now I'll just have to kill all his spawn, starting with you!" He continues as he tosses "Alpha" into the flames. "Alpha" manages to roll aside as Anakin arrives. "Get up '"Alpha".' You'll want to see this rematch" he says, swinging the electro-bolas over his head (the ones Durge used on Anakin in the last issue), hitting Durge with the weapon. Injured, Durge activates his jetpack and retreats. Meanwhile, Ventress clashes with Obi-Wan as Zule attempts to reacquire her lightsaber. However, Ventress uses one of her baldes to lob off Zule's left arm. Ventress then forces back Obi-Wan. "So much emotion...so much fear...and...hope? Who?" Anakin and "Alpha" have arrived. "The cavalry," Anakin remarks. "Interesting...maybe you're not as cowardly as I'd thought. I will remember that, for when we meet again," Ventress replies. She Force-jumps into the air, intercepted by Durge, who carries her off. "I thought you said you could handle them. Dooku will consider this mission a failure," Durge comments. "I disagree. Now I know my enemy's face...and his heart," she replies. Back on the ground, the Gunship has arrived and "Alpha" urges them to get Obi-Wan into a Bacta tank before the chemical agent kills him. Anakin requests to go to Naboo, but Obi-Wan denies him, saying Threepio can tell the Queen everything she needs to know. They must return to Coruscant to warn the Jedi of this new threat. "I can't believe the Confederacy would do this." Anakin comments. "Believe it, Anakin. This is the new face of war." Obi-Wan replies. Outcome Many Gungans die. The Confederacy's planned attack on Naboo is foiled. Glaive is killed. Zule joins the ranks orphaned Padawans. Sources Republic

#5 Key Characters Joram Kithe, Tooth, Digger, Dodge, Mapper, Wrench, Hash, Spade, Spots Setting the Stage A full platoon of clone troopers was sent to Pengalan IV aboard the Sea Legacy to destroy a diamond boron missiles facility in the city of Tur Lorkin. These missiles were designed to shoot down Republic starfighters. With them was Joram Kithe, a cowardly, yet resourceful, accountant for the Republic. His charge was to evaluate the clone troopers’ military value to help determine if the Republic would purchase more clones. He never envisioned that he’d have to help lead the actual military strike. The Battle A battle ensued among arrival to the planet in which a majority of the clone trooper platoon was wiped out. Joram and the few remaining clone troops had to destroy the facility on their own. Joram noticed that these clones behaved differently than other clone troopers. They were less apt to blindly take orders like others he’d seen. Having trouble keeping up with the clones (they all look alike), Joram gave them all nicknames based on an event surrounding each individual clone (i.e. one trooper once lost a tooth so he named him "Tooth.") Other clone nicknames included Digger, Dodge, Mapper, Wrench, Hash, and Spade. After the nicknames were assigned, the platoon leader, Tooth, suggested a plan to infiltrate the missile facility. Under Tooth's leadership, the group was able to get inside, obtain disguises, identicards, and fingerprints of Separatist agents. Tooth was able to create a diversion, which allowed Joram and another team of troopers to destroy the facility. In the melee, Tooth and several other clone troopers fell to the Separatist defense. The remaining clones and Joram were able to secure transport off the planet from a spaceport in Tur Lorkin. Finally, during the escape, Digger revealed to Joram that his platoon of clones were "not regulars." He described his platoon to be "a little more self-reliant than the others. To be capable of more initiative." Digger informed Joram that there were more out there like them in case the Republic needed troopers for more specialized missions. Joram was supposed to assume the platoon was normal and write a "glowing report of the clone trooper’s military value. To help persuade the powers that be that all troopers perform like elites." Note: Chris Cerasi and Leland Chee both confirmed that these specialized clones are Advanced Recon Clone Troopers (ARC troopers), which we first see in REPUBLIC #50. Click here and here for the proof. Outcome The Republic mission to Pengalan is successful, but many clones die. Sources THE PENGALAN TRADEOFF in

Wars Insider #65 Key Characters RC-1136- Darman, RC-1309- Sargent- Niner, RC- 8015 Fi, RC-3222-Atin, General/Jedi Master Arligan Zey, Padawan Barden Jusik, Master Kast Fulier, Padawan Etain Tur-Mukan, Valaquil, Jinart, RC-????- Taler, RC-????-Vin, RC-????- Jay, Ghez Hokan, Dr. Ovolot Qail Uthan, Lik Ankkit, Cailish, Guta-Nay, Lt. Cuvin, Lt. Hurati, Birhan Setting the Stage Just weeks after the battle of Geonosis, the Republic and Jedi council learned of a Confederation research facility designed to create a nano-virus that was focused towards the Clone Troopers. If completed, the Confederacy would have a weapon that could essentially wipe the Republic's entire military out without firing a shot. The Jedi Council dispatched Master Kast Fulier and his Padawan learner, Etain Tur-Mukan to investigate, but the military lost contact with the pair. While they were on planet, they were betrayed and Ghez Hokan, a Mandalorian warrior who was in charge of security for the nanovirus facility, captured Fulier. He killed Fulier and took his lightsaber, but Etain escaped. After the war broke out in the galaxy, four Commandos were gathered by General/Jedi Master Arligan Zey and his padawan Barden Jusik for a mission to find and destroy the facility. The commandos were: RC-1136- Darman, RC-1309- Sargent- Niner, RC- 8015 Fi and RC-3222- Atin. They were all from squads that had been destroyed, and they were together for the first time. After getting armed, they set out in a small starship headed towards Qiilura. They were followed by Republic Assault Cruiser Majestic, which would wait for their signal and be prepared to extract them. The Battle The commando team, Omega Squad, came out of hyperspace over Qillura and began to land their ship. However, on the way down, they hit a bird, destroying an engine and lost control. The team was forced to bail out. Niner, Fi and Atin all jumped, but Darman stayed behind and grabbed what gear he could, then jumped. The ship crashed and exploded below him, leaving a huge crater that would later be found. Niner, Atin and Fi all landed safely. It was night by the time that they landed, and they all made it to RV Alpha, one of the many predetermined meet up points. Darman was nowhere to be seen. Niner decided that they would go to each of the RV Points and then the crash location if they haven't found Darman, then decide on his fate accordingly. Meanwhile, Padawan Etain had escaped and fallen in with a farmer named Birhan, who sheltered her for the night. The next day, they found a new clearing- the crater that the transport left behind. They both realized that the Republic had arrived. Darman was still alive, although slightly injured. He dug in near a road to hide, when two Weequays came down the road, looking for someone- most likely survivors of the crash. They checked the bushes and actually stepped on the soldier. Darman used a vibroblade and killed the one that stepped on him. When his partner came running, he was dropped by a bolt from Darman's DC-17. When the area was clear, the commando hid the bodies and took their weapons. From there, he went to a hillside, where he planned on constructing a hide for the day, where he could find his location and the rest of his squad. After finding where he was, he decided that the best place to meet them would be RV Gamma, nearly forty kilometers away. Along the way, he witnessed a group of enemy soldiers burning down a farm. He was urged to do something, and almost ended up taking out the soldiers, but didn't. But then he realized that they could be allies. He dropped one soldier with a head-shot, which alarmed the others. He killed eight others with a grenade and then took out the remaining four with his blaster. The civilians didn't know what to make of it. They collected themselves and told him to leave. They were terrified of what would happen if Ghez Hokan knew that they had seen him. Meanwhile, Niner, Atin and Fi were buzzed by an airspeeder, which was searching for them. It flew over twice before the pilot spotted them. Niner aimed for the propulsion systems on the ship when it got a targeting lock on him. They both fired at the same instant, and the ship came crashing down. By now, Ghez Hokan knew that there were some enemy soldiers on the ground. As did Dr. Ovolot Qail Uthan, the head researcher at the research facility. She enlisted his help to help keep the security of her operation. She gave him a hundred battle droids to help. She also told him that the Clones were created from Jango Fett, something that insulted him terribly. Darman was still a ways from Gamma. He used one of his remote sensors when he reached a huge field, and was trying to learn all that he could about the area around him. After nearly fifty hours on the move, he stopped and stripped off his armor and cleaned it, and got something to eat. Soon, he succumbed to sleep. Birhan was furious with Etain. The Republic had arrived, he knew, and he also knew what would happen if it was found that he was sheltering a Republic agent. He kicked her out of his home. A woman, Jinart, who lived with Birhan, urged him to let her stay, but he would have nothing of it. Jinart decided that she would go with Etain. Etain realized that there was something more to her than met the eyes. They went to a farmhouse, where Etain confronted her. She thought that Jinart was another Jedi. Jinart said that she wasn’t, but that she was not a local. She then told Etain where one of the soldiers, Darman, was currently. The other three commandos were also in hiding, watching a group of local soldiers drinking. Atin had taken the onboard computer from the speeder and was getting what data he could off of it. While they watched the soldiers, a group of battle droids came over and killed the local soldiers. Etain went out to look for the soldier, when a spotlight blinded her. Darman had found her. Mistaking him for Hokan, she tried to attack him, but he disarmed her. Darman told her to shut up and that she was going to get them both killed. He took off his helmet and told her who he was. He mistook her for a Jedi general, until she told him that she had no idea what he was talking about. She then asked him for his name - real name- and how old he was. Through the force, she sensed a child, and was surprised to find that he was the one that she sensed. Darman told her that he was ten years old. Niner, Atin and Fi reached point Beta, which was a large hill without any trees. They went as close as they could and began to take an inventory of what they had. While they were there, ten battle droids and an Aqualish officer came up behind them. Atin, who was between Niner and Fi, engaged them first, destroying one droid, but was pinned down. Fi killed the officer and Niner joined in. They destroyed the rest of the droids and tended to Atin. He had been shot in the chest, but his armor held, giving him a bad bruise and some breathing problems. They gave him some bacta, then moved on to the next checkpoint, Gamma. Along the way, they learned that Atin was the survivor of two different squads, which was why he had been fairly distant from the others. Darman and Etain sought shelter in a small house that they found. Etain told Darman not to call her Commander. She didn't feel that she had earned the rank. She also told him that she had plans for all of the Separatist buildings, including the research facility and the Neimodian's villa. Darman knew that this is one of the vital things that they needed and told her that they had come for the doctor. He also told her that the virus was directed towards the clones, and she was surprised to learn that he was a Clone. Looking over the directions, Darman found that their intel on the nanovirus facility was wrong. The building that they thought was the facility was really the garrison of Trade Federation Droids, while another building was the facility. While they were talking, Jinart came into the room, surprising Darman, who drew his gun and backed her into a wall. She told them that the rest of the squad was on their way to the next RV point, then changed from an old woman to her native form. She was a Gurlanin, and had infiltrated the base several times. She also told them that Hokan had been placed in charge of the garrison and knew of their presence. By then, Niner, Fi and Atin had reached RV point Gamma and set up for the night. From there, they saw that Hokan had begun to light the fields on fire, denying them any cover there. The commandos assumed that the Separatists had found someone- Darman. Jinart came into the house, told Darman of the fires, and told them that they would have to move. Darman knew where the rest of the squad was now, but he had to get out of his armor, so that he wouldn't attract any more attention to himself. He loaded that and all of his weapons into a handcart. They moved out. Fi, Niner and Atin saw the fires slow down and stop, probably due to a steam. They debated using a comlink to contact Darman, but they decided that it would be too risky; the enemy could get a lock on their positions. While they were sitting, Jinart came up on them. She told them that Darman was alive. She also warned them that the facility that they were headed towards was a trap, that the real target was the villa. She also told them that Darman had detailed plans of the buildings and was with the Jedi Padawan. Darman and Etain were walking down a road, without armor, looking for the next place to hide. They came along a house that was abandoned. Darman cleared the room quickly, and the two sat down for a small meal. They grabbed some supplies then headed out again. They reached another farm, and were taken in for the night there. Darman mined the front walk, then set himself up at the window to watch for any enemy soldiers. During the night, a group of seven enemy soldiers did come. One went to the door, and didn't knock. The family fled out the back door. Darman attached a grenade to his gun and fired it through the window, destroying part of the wall as he fired a second one. The man at the door burst in, only to meet Etain with her lightsaber. He went through the window and met two more Trandoshans. One shot him in the shoulder, and he killed both. They then left. One of the things that Fi, Atin and Niner learned was that one of the planet's industries was gem mining, and that they were near a mine with plenty of explosives. They found the building that the explosives were kept in and went to take it. They battered down the door, only to get shot at from inside. To scare the soldiers inside out, Atin disarmed a grenade and tossed it in. Terrified that that would destroy the entire building, the two Weequays inside came running out. Niner and Atin shot both. They entered and began to pick out what they needed when they came across another Weequay. They cuffed him when he surrendered and brought him outside. The prisoner was Guta-Nay, Ghez Hokan's former second. He agreed to tell the soldiers what they wanted to know. They learned where the droids were stationed, at the communications center at Teklet. Using one of the loadlifters at the mine, they'd go and destroy it with the explosives that they found. By this time, Ghez Hokan and his staff had found the damage that Darman and Etain had done at the farmhouse. Hokan was furious, for his soldiers had not reported in as ordered. Looking through the ruins, they decided that it was a single commando and a Jedi that did the damage. Looking around throughout the rest of the house, they found that the rest of the family was dead. Something had torn their throats out. While they were looking through the house, they learned from one of the droids that the pair was still being pursued. Hokan ordered all of his troops back to the base where he could defend it easily. Darman and Etain were being chased by droids. Taking advantage of the terrain, the two jumped down a gully, then mined it. As the droids advanced, they destroyed the hill. Looking back, they found that they had gotten them all. Due to his helmet and armor, Darman was uninjured, but Etain was deafened by the blast. While they were hiding, another couple of droids came up, along with a couple of regular officers. They decided that the pair had escaped and left. Darman learned that Etain had used the force to get rid of them. While they were safe, Darman fixed his shoulder with some bacta that he had then Etain's ear. He learned that she could swear profusely in Huttese. While that was happening, Niner was riding the hijacked droid loaded down with explosives down the road towards the communications center. After disabling the controls and passing several droid patrols, he made it into Teklet. As he got closer to the defense station, he armed the explosives and aimed the droid to crash into the fence surrounding his target. As the wall collapsed, he bolted, running over a tech and headed straight for the woods. When he reached it, he detonated his cargo. Ghez Hokan was talking with someone off world about the recent infiltration when the comms went down. Through the droids, who were unaffected, he learned that Teklet had been bombed, and that they had no main communications system. He ordered every functioning droid back to the main base. In space, the Republic Assault cruiser Majestic received orders to block any ship from taking off or landing on the planet. Another cruiser, the Vengeance, would be there shortly. A Techno-Union ship was also in space, but was not firing on the Republic ship. It was a bit of a standoff. When Niner looked back at the town, he found that it wasn't there any more. He radioed the others and they all headed to their RV point. He had to get a transport, and brought out the sniper setting on his rifle to acquire something. A landspeeder and a speeder bike with a Trandoshan on each approached. Niner shot out the window of the landspeeder, forcing it off the road and shot the rider off the speeder bike. He got on the speeder and left. Darman and Etain were still not at the RV point, and had bunkered down for the night. They talked for a while, then Darman began to instruct Etain a little on combat and how to fight more effectively. Hokan was busy back at the base, fortifying the villa, much to Lik Ankkit's annoyance and dismay. It was part of a plan to force the Republic soldiers to split their forces between buildings. The researcher was in the villa for a short time, but was moved back to the facility to make the commandos unsure of her exact location. Niner, Atin, Fi and Guta-Nay all headed to the RV point. Niner dispatched a small remote to look for Darman, which found him quickly. They agreed to send the remote over to the villa, then linked up at the RV point, a squad once again. Etain was surprised by the clones, and asked for all of their names. She also recognized Guta-Nay, who had chased her before. While she questioned him, Darman and the others updated themselves on what had happened. Jinart joined them, telling him of Hokan's plans, that the doctor and her staff were relocated again, and that the villa had a large number of droids and explosives. They decided that they would have to hit both targets, to eliminate the threat of the entire droid garrison. They decided that it would be best to detonate the explosives already in the villa, which would take out most of the droids. They gave Jinart a bomb and two cameras. Guta-Nay would also escape, being convinced by Etain that there were really two squads of commandos. They laid plans for the Weequay to hear, then had dinner. After they ate, Etain talked to Atin and found out what had been troubling him- that he had survived two squads and had a lot of guilt about it. After that, Etain used a Jedi Mind Trick to convince Guta-Nay to leave for Hokan, to tell him the information that they wanted him to hear. While this was happening, Hokan was talking with Dr. Uthan, who told him that she was tired of being constantly moved. She also told him that the virus that she was working on was not finished. Instead of attacking just the clone troopers, it would probably attack any human. When they had finished, Hokan found that Guta-Nay had been captured, and he questioned him. He told the Mandalorian that there were two teams of Commandos, and that they were planning to attack soon. He also told him of the weapons that they were using and where they might strike. Using the lightsaber that he had collected from Fulier, Hokan killed the Weequay. He then told Hurati that he should split the droid forces to anticipate a two-pronged attack. Etain learned through the force that Guta-Nay had been killed. She talked with some of the commandos about it, when they had their cameras that Jinart had planted, and they found that Hokan had split his forces. Etain ordered the commandos to call up to the Majestic and to give them some assistance when they required it, i.e., an orbital bombardment of one of the targets. They then had to come up with a new plan for getting into the research facility to capture Dr. Uthan. Jinart suggested using the tunnels that the local animals dug everywhere. Darman and Atin would infiltrate the facility, while Niner and Fi would provide cover from elsewhere. Once they got Dr Uthan, they would call for an extraction and leave the planet. With Jinart's help, they found the right tunnels and began to move into the facility. The tunnels were fairly large, enough for both troopers, and they soon reached the outer part of the facility. They ordered Jinart back, and dug their way in. They hit the drain that they were aiming for and using a drill, weakened the drain. It took them about an hour. They then took their ram and broke it. They were now ready. They radioed Niner and let him know that they were in position. They were now inside the building and found an entry point. They set their charges and waited. Niner set off the charge that Jinart had planted in the villa, destroying the entire building and the droids inside of it. The entire area fell silent for a second, then Niner and Fi manned their E-Web blaster and opened up. As the droids found their position, they mowed them down. They then saw a large number of droids, about fifty, coming towards them, in-between the villa and the main facility. They radioed the ship in orbit and asked them to take care of it. The ship opened up, raining fire down on the droids. Meanwhile, in the facility, Darman and Atin found themselves in a secure virus lab, and began to set charges that would not only destroy the building, but anything in the air for half a kilometer. They then set out, room by room, destroying the droids that they found. They were soon pinned down and forced to pull back to the first chamber, where they found Dr. Uthan with a Verpine Shatter gun. In space, the Majestic disabled the Techno Union ship and left it drifting. The second ship, the Vengeance, stood by with a boarding party. Ghez Hokan was also in the facility and was extremely mad when he learned that the emergency doors had been shut, preventing him from getting to the commandos in the base. While his officers tried to open the doors by overriding them, Hokan took out the lightsaber he had stolen and began to hack away at the doors. The doctor was not a good shot, and missed the soldiers, who used a small EMP to disable her weapon. They also killed the soldiers in the room with her. They cuffed Uthan and brought her out the way that they came in, through the drainpipes. Hokan finally got the doors open, and they began to search through the rest of the building for the doctor and any other staff still in the building. He tried to get the remains of the project, but it was sealed and locked, and only Uthan had the proper codes. Hokan was forced to go out after the commandos to get her back. He began to evacuate the research staff, but the two commandos with the E-Web cut them down. They shot six anti-armor grenades into the building, set their gun to self-destruct and ran for the extraction point. Etain and Jinart dug Darman, Atin and Uthan out of their tunnel, and they began to move towards the extraction point. They reached it as the LAAT-I gunship was touching down, but as they boarded, Atin was shot in the side and downed. They killed the assailant, then turned to Atin and began to treat his wound. They carried Atin and Uthan to the gunship, and found that Uthan had been hit as well. She was still alive. Niner and Fi were still about a kilometer from the EP, when they heard a speeder. It was Hokan. Niner brought out his rifle and shot the speeder, throwing the rider off into the woods. Hokan was still alive, and began shooting at them when Fi raised his head. Niner shot back while Fi threw an explosive in his direction. They knew that they hadn't killed him when he threw an EMP at them, frying their helmets, so they decided to draw the Mandalorian out by pretending to be hit. Niner began screaming. When Niner and Fi didn't show up at the EP, Etain began to worry. The gunship was loaded down with several clone troopers, an ARC Trooper, Valaquil, a medic, and General/Jedi Master Arligan Zey. Etain told them to wait and that the soldiers were coming, but the General wanted them to take off quickly. With some arguing, she and Darman set out to find Fi and Niner. They found Niner just as he was about to get hit by a vibroblade by Hokan. Etain killed the Mandalorian, and the squad, now re-united with the exception of Atin, they ran for the gunship. They arrived and got on. Etain told General Zey that she would never think of a clone as a soldier, but a person, and requested that she be reassigned to work with them. The General told her no, that she would help him here, on Qiilura, to help Valaquil and Jinart to free the planet. He gave her a choice to work with Omega Squad or to help him, and she chose to stay with the General. The ARC Trooper told them that they would have to leave now, and the gunship took off. Etain took a couple of seconds to say goodbye to the commandos, Darman in particular and then watched the gunship leave the planet. Outcome The Clone Commando Omega team destroyed all the research personnel working on the nano-virus, which effectively crippled the Confederacy’s efforts to create a bio-weapon geared toward the clone troopers. The mission also made several key points in the soldiers of the war for the Jedi. It is unclear how the Omega team will fare in the future, or how Etain and General Zey will work on their own mission. Sources Republic Commando: Hard Contact Key Characters K’Kruhk and many clone troopers Setting the Stage After the Battle of Geonosis, K’Kruhk, a Jedi of the Whiphid species, takes command of a battalion of clones on Teyr, an agrarian planet in the Colonies region, near the Corellian Trade Spine. The Battle Lightsaber blazing, K’Kruhk leads his battalion (including clones on foot and some in gunships) into combat against Trade Federation battle droids, super battle droids, and Commerce Guild homing spider droids. The battle does not go well for the Republic forces, and K’Kruhk orders a retreat. However, one of the clone troopers points out that they can still achieve the objective and need to keep going, even though most of the clones will die in the process. K’Kruhk says this loss of life is not acceptable to him. Outcome The comic issue (JEDI: MACE WINDU) is unclear on what happens next. However, most of the clone troops die in the battle and K’Kruhk is thought to have died with them. So it can be assumed that K’Kruhk agreed to press on, even at the cost of most of the clone battalion, and probably won eventually (assuming that the clone trooper’s tactical analysis was correct). Appalled at the loss of life and the fact that he had led these men to their deaths, K’Kruhk eventually joined up with other dissident Jedi who also protested the Jedi Order’s role in the war, although he eventually returned to the fold after an incident on Ruul. Mace Windu: Schism Key Characters Cei Vookto and possibly Dama Montalvo, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Mace Windu, Quinlan Vos, Tholme, and Yoda since they were present at Vookto’s funeral after the battle. Setting the Stage True to his Duros heritage, Master Cei Vookto loved traveling and often went on long journey missions at the fringes of the Republic. When the Council’s summons came, he immediately returned and took charge of an army. The Battle On the planet of Lianna, located in the Tion Cluster on the Perlemian Trade Route, Republic clone troopers in in AT-TEs and gunships face off against droidekas, super battle droids, and Commerce Guild homing spider droids. In the battle, Vookto sacrifices his own life for his troops. Outcome The battle was evidently a victory for the Republic, because the other Jedi were able to remain in the area afterward. Cei Vookto dies and Ki-Adi-Mundi takes command of Vookto’s troops. Vookto’s Padawan, Dama Montalvo, goes with Ki for the time being. Sources Jedi
Mace Windu: Schism Key Characters Asajj Ventress, Jeisel, K’Kruhk, Mace Windu, Mira, Rhad Tarn, Sora Bulq Setting the Stage The story begins on the planet Lianna, the night following the battle there (see previous entry). A funeral is being held for Master Cei Vookto (he is being cremated, per Jedi tradition [Qui-Gon Jinn, Yarael Poof, etc.]). In attendance are Mace Windu, Yoda, Quinlan Vos, Tholme, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Vookto’s Padawan Dama Montalvo, and surviving clone troopers. Afterwards, Quin and Tholme give their report to Mace and Yoda. Many Jedi have perished in the 3 months since the Battle of Geonosis, and the problem has been made worse because a number of Jedi have refused to serve as generals of the clone army. At Windu’s request, Quin has made contact with the dissidents’ leaders: Sora Bulq (who fought in the Battle of Geonosis), Jeisel, Rhad Tarn, Mira (one of Sora’s former Padawans), and K’Kruhk (who had been thought killed in the Battle of Teyr). Mace mentions that Sora used to be a lightsaber instructor at the Jedi Temple. When Mace developed Vaapad (some kind of martial art and/or lightsaber combat form), Sora was the one he practiced with. Sora is one of the few who knows it almost as well as Mace does. (Dawn is just starting now.) Some of the dissidents only wish to remain neutral in the conflict, some think the Republic should negotiate with the Confederacy of Independent Systems, while others propose joining the Confederacy and actively battling the Republic. Though the dissidents don’t all think alike, they have been united by Sora Bulq and there are enough of them to create a schism within the Jedi Order. Yoda points out that the Jedi have many enemies within the Republic, and if they learn of this, they will think the Jedi are weak. (While this discussion is going on, Mace and Quin have begun fencing with their lightsabers, to keep up Quin’s skills, since he has been using a blaster instead of his lightsaber while undercover on The Wheel.) The dissident leaders have agreed to a meeting at Sora’s old family estate on Ruul, a moon of Sriluur, the Weequay homeworld—and they only want to meet with Mace Windu. At this point, the lightsaber practice is cut short by Mace because Quin has used a Vaapad maneuver from Form VII of lightsaber dueling—an especially aggressive Form that can take the user perilously close to the dark side, and Quin has already skirted the edges of the dark side more than once. Mace tells Quin that it is not something he (Quin) should attempt. Quin reveals that he learned the move from Sora Bulq. It is now the following morning. Mace agrees to the meeting with the dissidents. At one of Count Dooku’s secret lairs (not the one on Coruscant seen in AOTC, but the Gothic-castle-type one seen in Jango Fett: Open Seasons and Rite of Passage #4), Commander Asajj Ventress arrives to receive orders from Dooku. Dooku knows about the upcoming meeting on Ruul. He tells Ventress that the Jedi Council has sent Mace to "confuse, entrap, and if necessary, kill" the dissidents. He wants Ventress to secretly get to Ruul first to prevent this. He tells her, "You should know, Ventress, that Windu was chief among those responsible for abandoning your Master, Ky Narec." Ventress replies, "Then he is faithless and deserves to die." The Mission Mace arrives at Ruul 2 days later. He talks with each of the 5 dissident leaders to learn their individual opinions on the matter. Sora Bulq is not sure the Republic is worth Jedi dying to protect it, although he says he hasn’t made up his mind yet. K’Kruhk recounts the Battle of Teyr. He feels leading men (even clones) to their deaths in a war goes against everything the Jedi stand for. Jeisel wonders how the Jedi Order can serve a corrupt government without becoming corrupt themselves. Mira points out that many of the complaints made by the Separatists are just, and that they should pursue a diplomatic solution to the conflict. Rhad Tarn thinks the Jedi should be fighting on the side of the Confederacy against the Republic. That night, Sora is taking a walk on the grounds of the estate when he is attacked without warning by Asajj Ventress, armed with two curved-hilt lightsabers with red blades. Sora defends himself with two blue-bladed lightsabers—one regular saber and one smaller, dagger-like lightsaber. Mira senses a disturbance in the Force and runs to see what is the matter, calling the other Jedi as soon as she sees the mysterious assassin battling her former Master. Even though Sora tries to warn her away, Mira enters the battle and is killed almost immediately by Ventress. Then K’Kruhk, Rhad, Jeisel, and Mace arrive and start fighting Ventress. Mace asks the assassin who and what she is and she replies, "I am your humble servant, Mace Windu. I trust you’re pleased." She then escapes. Understandably, the other Jedi want to know what the assassin meant by saying this. Rhad openly accuses Mace of being in league with the killer. Since no ship can land on the estate without Sora knowing, and the assassin didn’t arrive with any of the dissidents, she therefore must have come on Mace’s ship. Mace goes off to find and "deal with" Ventress. K’Kruhk, who knows Mace reasonably well, points out that even if Mace did want the dissidents dead, he wouldn’t need an assassin. Of the five, only Sora might be able to withstand Mace, K’Kruhk opines. Rhad goes after Mace to find him and prove he is conspiring with the assassin. Sora takes Mira’s body back to the house, and orders Jeisel and K’Kruhk to follow Rhad. Mace finds Ventress’ ship in a clearing in the woods—a Geonosian vessel very similar to Dooku’s Solar Sailer. (It might even be the Solar Sailer. But if it was a different vessel of the same type, it wouldn’t have the solar sail, which was a pre-Republic artifact Dooku added on to his ship.) Mace then leaves. Then Rhad arrives at the ship. Ventress attacks him. During the duel, she is simply toying with Rhad, and taunts and goads him until he goes over to the dark side and agrees to join Ventress. Then Jeisel and K’Kruhk show up with lightsabers blazing, telling Rhad not to listen to the assassin, but it is too late. Meanwhile, back at the house, Sora is mourning the death of his former Padawan Mira. "Mira. It shouldn’t have happened this way," he says, venting his feelings out loud even though she cannot hear him. Mace enters and confronts Sora. He has figured out that Sora was working with the assassin all along, and, igniting his lightsaber, asks Sora when did he go over to the dark side? Sora reveals that he was long fascinated by the dark side of the Force, and even more by his and Mace’s work developing Vaapad. Dooku approached Sora after the battle on Geonosis was over, and showed Sora that if changes were ever to be made to the Republic, the Jedi would have to be the ones to do it, and then rule. The plan behind the whole affair was to lure Mace and the others to Ruul, kill one or two of them, and blame Mace for their deaths. The schism would widen, and many more Jedi would join with Dooku and Sora. Now Sora has decided it would be best to kill all of the other Jedi and he alone survive to tell of Mace’s betrayal. Mace says to Sora, "A small flaw in your plan—I am not dead." Sora says, "Soon corrected, Master Windu." They begin dueling. Sora once again wields one regular lightsaber and the smaller "light-dagger." Meanwhile, back out on the grounds, K’Kruhk is fighting Ventress and Rhad is fighting Jeisel. Rhad pins Jeisel against a boulder and is about to kill her, but Jeisel Force-grabs her lightsaber (which is lying nearby), calling it to her hand, and stabs Rhad through the abdomen with it. Back in the house, Mace ends the duel by using the Force to slam Sora into some crumbling masonry, and then leaves. By now K’Kruhk is lying on the ground, temporarily stunned. Jeisel attacks Ventress but is repelled. Ventress raises her lightsaber to kill K’Kruhk, but then Mace arrives and starts to fight Ventress. Ventress connects the ends of her two curved lightsaber hilts together, forming an approximately S-shaped double-bladed lightsaber. Ventress reveals that she has a special interest in Mace’s death, but he says he doesn’t recognize her. She knows she isn’t a match for Mace’s skills, so she flees. Mace explains to Jeisel and K’Kruhk (who is now somewhat recovered) that Sora is in league with the assassin and their earlier fight was a sham. The three survivors go to Mace’s ship, fighting their way through a squad of miscellaneous combat and maintenance droids. Sora watches the Jedi ship fly away. "Ah, well. Another day, Mace Windu," he says. While the ship is in hyperspace, Mace tells Jeisel and K’Kruhk that he wants them to return to the other dissidents and tell them the truth about Sora Bulq. What they do after that is up to them. K’Kruhk says he will return to the Jedi Temple and encourage others to do the same. "Evil must be opposed," he says. Jeisel says she won’t join the Confederacy, but she still stands by her philosophical objections. Mace says that whatever she chooses, the Council will honor it, as long as it doesn’t lead her to the dark side. Outcome Mace discovers the existence of Asajj Ventress, and that she has a mysterious reason for wanting to kill him. Sora Bulq is revealed to be in league with Dooku and with Asajj Ventress, but Mace apparently doesn’t realize that Ventress is also working with Dooku. Sora and Ventress both survive. Mira is killed by Ventress. Rhad Tarn goes to the dark side but is then impaled on Jeisel’s lightsaber, presumably killed. K’Kruhk returns to the rest of the Jedi. Jeisel remains a dissident. Mace Windu: Schism Key Characters Vydel Dir'Nul, Ash B'risko, An unknown Jedi Knight, "Kardem" Setting the Stage A female Jedi Master named Vydel Dir'Nul tracks a serial killer only known as "Kardem" to the planet Perilious. It is during the Clone Wars and Vydel has gone oft on this pursuit of Kardem for 6 months instead of heeding the call of the Jedi Council on Coruscant to serve as a General in the Grand Army of the Republic. Kardem had killed 3 Twi'lek girls, but his first victim seven months ago was a freighter pilot named Ash B'risko, whom Vydel had fallen in love with. And now she seeks Kardem to bring him to justice and for vengeance. The Mission Vydel observes that Kardem's next 3 Twi'lek female victims were killed by force lightning and not mere saber wounds like the first 4. She follows mental hints sent by Kardem and finds yet another victim as a hooded form appears behind her and calls out her name. She yells out Kardem's name and they clash sabers. A kick to the head takes her down as her opponent's green saber points down at her observing that her sword skills are out of practice. The hooded form then proclaims that he is taking her back to the Jedi Council. As he does so, she lashes out with Force lightning. He calls out Master Dir'Nul's name, but she responds, "Master who? The name is Kardem. And it is the last thing you'll hear before you die..." The Jedi says, "No, your name is Vydel Dir'Nul...I..I've been tracking you for six months...finally caught up to you." He continues to explain that she had caught her lover with a Twi'lek dancing girl and snapped. She killed in cold blood and journeyed too close to the dark side and created the Kardem persona to carry out her insane revenge. He then yells as he throws his saber at her. Vydel stops the saber in mid air with the Force and releases more Force lightning. "I know no Vydel Dir'nul. She must be dead. But since you want to find her so badly, perhaps you should join her!" She then throws his saber back to him, cutting him down. She then snaps back and is surprised and upset that Kardem had claimed another victim, and this time it was a Jedi. She vows to continue to hunt down Kardem. Outcome Vydel/Kardem kills a Jedi Knight and is completely insane! Sources Star
