CLONE WARS BATTLES
Key Characters General Grievous, Hoolidan Keggle, Republic and Confederacy forces Setting the Stage For several weeks, the Confederation was pushing towards the core of the galaxy, towards Coruscant. Precipitating in an operation known as Durge's Lance, the Confederation began to work towards Duro as the first core planet to attack. Prior to the battle, Confederation Givin and droid astrogators calculated new routes into the core, moving around large mined trade routes. The first and third fleets of the Confederation navy were based off of Yag'Dhul and were supplied by Sullust and Thyferra. The Battle Duro was defended by planetary forces, and additional units of fighters, one Jedi Starfighters and two V-19 clone fighters were set against confederation forces. However, the Confederation starfighters broke through the lines and began to attack the orbiting cities, while other Confederation forces cut the system routes off from Kuat and Nubia. The attack against the outer defenses destroyed three Acclamator Class ships, the Anvil, Coronet and Colide, as well as two Dreadnaughts, the Prominence and the Atrisian Iron. The Confederation forces concentrated on the main orbital cities, primarily Jyvus, which surrendered after being boarded by enemy soldiers. At the time, there were still four more Acclamator class Cruisers, a Victory Class Star Destroyer and another Dreadnaught, but the destruction of three of the Acclamators forced the rest to retreat, leaving the system for takeover. After the city of Jyvus was taken, Confederation fighters began to bomb the surface factories from orbit, causing massive chemical leaks and allowing the droid army to occupy the surface almost unhindered. Duro Chief Representative Officer Hoolidan Keggle was forced to sign a treaty that officially declared the system a Confederation one. For the last stages of the battle, the Confederacy used the Holonet to show their victory to many citizens of the Republic, instilling fear in many. Outcome The battle of Duro had many lasting effects, on the planet and on the war effort. After Duro fell, the pathways towards the rest of the Core planets, particularly Corellia, were added to, and there were several internal investigations on the conduct of the military response to the Duro attack. However, the capture of a major core world shook everyone to their core, which proved to be devastating to the moral of the Republic. Sources Star
